Glass-fusing

People have always been fascinated by glass, we all have our personal relation to this mysterous substance. My own relationship to glass started when I took the chanse to try work in fusing and slumping of glass some 10 years ago.

The history of glass is as old as that of of the Pharaoes. They made it possible for the art of making glass to develop at about 5-6000 years ago. The Enamel, that also is glass-melted onto metal originates from the same source. Many of us have tried this in primaryscool´s craft & picture classes.

The key to sustainable results that will not crack lies in the cool-down process. Since the 60´s artists and scientists have worked intimately to develop the automatics that control the kilns and nowadays the techniques and the knowhow are so wide spread that nearly everyone can try this beautyful way of doing art.

When it comes to creating and inspiration, then glass is a gift. It´s nature is straight on and clear. I sometimes “warme up” with a moment or two in the glass studio to prepare myself for a claysession. It is easy to wind down with the pretty colours, a mosaic takes shape and maybe a necklace to give to someone you love.
